Now that the New York marathon is behind me, I’ve been working on my 2020 race schedule and what goals are on the horizon. Ok, let’s be honest, I already had several 2020 races booked for months now. But I needed a more immediate goal.
After New York, I took about a week off of running completely and then eased back in. But for the last couple of weeks now, I’ve been training in earnest for my next goal race: the Hilton Head Half Marathon in February! After my Fall half marathon, the Crawlin’ Crab in Hampton, Virginia ended with a finish so close to my PR time, I was anxious to keep moving forward. I probably should have given myself a teensie bit more rest time, but who am I kidding?
So why did I pick Hilton Head? First, it’s not too far from Raleigh, NC. It’s a beautiful beach town that I’ve wanted to check out more. Much of my family is in Savannah, Georgia, which is a stones throw away from Hilton Head. I’ve actually been to the outlet mall about a dozen times… but that’s the extent of what I’ve seen of Hilton Head! So when I heard about the rave through BibRave, I was very interested. Especially because it’s flat! So many of my running buddies do the nearby beach races because it’s the closest flat space we can get away from the rolling Raleigh hills, but I have yet to make it out to any of them. This race fit perfectly into my schedule so, why not?
The race weekend actually has an 8k, half marathon, and a full, but you know I’ve sworn off fulls since New York (I mean, until my next one). The full and the half marathon get medals and all distances get a fleece jacket. I love when races provide something other than the standard tech shirt! There’s also an after party and runners each get a couple of beer tickets to celebrate their accomplishment.
If you want to run the Hilton Head race weekend too, here’s a code to get you 15% off your registration: ‘HH15’
I have several other races coming immediately after Hilton Head, and basically my first 6 months of 2020 are already spoken for with lots of mileage, but I’ll share more details later as we approach the beginning of the year. Stay tuned!
